As Megs mentioned I am currently in LA and I have to say, it is wonderful out here. While Megs and Vlad watched our beloved Ohio State Buckeyes choke on tv, I was at the game with some roommates from college. We could barely believe our eyes, but, we have to give USC some credit – their team has quite a bit of talent! Either way, I couldn’t help myself from doing a little people watching. It has been a long time since we covered an ostrich skin bag on PurseBlog. I just realized that. If this tote did not have enough wiggle room, the large dimensions (15″W X 12¼”H X 5¾”D) would end up being far too heavy just to carry by hand, completely defeating its original purpose in my handbag mind. The bag will fit snug on your shoulder. I saw this bag and loved it. It is so refreshing to see something different and eclectic from a brand that you begin to know what to expect. Why thank you Prada for taking my likings into account. And even more of my likings are on this handbag. The overall design is nothing amazing, but the hobo stands out with the leather pieces which are stitched together to create a stripe pattern. But this bag does it for me. I don’t need all the extras on my bags, just a bag that does its job but still stands out and grabs attention. And you know what this bag does, it adds that slight shine and glimmer that makes for a perfect metallic bag. There is a snap closure and two inside pockets. Available in anthracite and copper; if I were buying this bag I would most likely opt for copper.

The countdown has officially begun for those on the Louis Vuitton Watercolor Speedy list! Luckily I am on the list and I am quite excited to get my Speedy and use it for summer. The only unfortunate part is that it arrives in stores on May 1st, and I fly out May 1st for my trip to Spain. Oh well, I can wait 11 days to get back and get the bag! The other bag that is highly coveted and newly arrived to eLuxury is the Louis Vuitton Monogram Canvas Galliera. This is a new addition to the Monogram Canvas line for LV and the perfect touch for spring and summer. This bag features the monogram canvas that we all are very familiar with, shiny golden brass hardware, and a LV inventeur plate on the front. The shape will give this bag the perfect slouch, with an adjustable belted leather should strap. The inside is lined with microfiber and there are ample pockets for storage. For this fall ’05 the Burberry Plaid Wool Bag seems to be a major contender. I grew out of loving the Burberry checkered print a while back, because it became a trend rather than a high end design. But this bag really is strikingly different. The Burberry Plaid Wool Bag is of course, like the title says, a plaid print bag which is accented with textured leather trim and sports a trendy faux tortoise shell handle. I think goldtone hardware is the perfect accent color because it is warmer and really shows off the wool plaid pattern off nicely. For all of you out there who are considered to be the handbag expert within your circle of friends, how often do you hear, “what would you say is the ‘IT’ bag of the moment”? When Megs first really started to follow fashion and handbags I would *always* go to her for advice. Now that I work with her, I find people asking me the same kind of questions I used to ask her. Personally, I don’t think there is ever just one “IT” bag at a given time. However, it is undeniable that right now, top handle bags are making a run for that coveted title. As always, as I looked around there were top handle bags I despised and others I found myself instantly drawn to. Well, the Gucci Small Hysteria Top Handle Bag is without a doubt, a handbag I was drawn to. As you might remember, we’ve posted about Gucci Hysteria bags before, in particular you might recall the ginormous price tag associated to the the Gucci Crocodile Hysteria Bag. Luckily, the Small Hysteria Top Handle Bag has a much smaller price tag. Although saving money, I love how the lightly gathered lamé patent leather, with side tie accents and a metal Gucci crest show off the bag’s elegance. There is a zip-top closure, inside zip, cell phone and PDA pockets, not to mention plenty of storage space! And of course, double top handles. I grew up mostly living in parts of Florida. We may get a winter ‘chill’, but it is clearly nothing like a true northern winter. So when I choose The Ohio State University as my college of choice, I had no idea what I was in for. Note to any warm weather climate person about to embark on college somewhere with a true winter: anything you thought would be a winter jacket is not. You should have seen the ‘jackets’ I bought for the cold weather. They were glorified wind-breakers that kept me literally freezing. I did not understand what nature had in store for me. One of the coats I distinctly remember buying was actually rather ghastly to look at. And it also did not keep me warm enough (it was cheap). It was made with shearling. Unfortunately for Prada, the Prada Shearling Hobo does nothing other than remind me of the shearling coat I owned in college. And that is not speaking in Prada’s favor. As most of you already know, Spain won the World Cup title in overtime against Netherlands yesterday in front of a crowd of 88,000 in Johannesburg, South Africa. For a dressy clutch without an absurd price, the Prada Raso Silver Clutch is a definite contender. While browsing Saks last week I saw this clutch in person and both Vlad and I absolutely loved it. The pleated silver satin is the perfect swoon-worthy gray color. The dimensions were perfect to have this be hand held, measuring 11″W X 6″H X 1″D. Yet for the life of me I could not figure out how to open this clutch. I pressed, pulled, shook, shimmied, and snapped, but nothing. Finally an SA came over and trying to make a sale told me it was very easy to open; “there is a side clasp that is easy to use”. That was a huge lie. It was not easy to use at first nor easy to find. But this does mean the clutch will not be bursting open easily or letting any of your goods slip out. The price is right and the design is beautiful. One of these stores was Gucci and the item in focus was the Gucci Crocodile and Ostrich Patchwork Bag. It was showcased in its own window on the side of the store all by itself and was just glaring at us with handcrafted details and superb materials. The friendly salesman (whose name I can’t recall, I’ll dig up his biz card later) brought it out for us to inspect — in my opinion the best $22,700 spent *if* you have them to spend on a bag. The blonde crocodile and ostrich patchwork, along with the bamboo detail and the gold hardware on the strap make the bag’s bite match the bark. Fantastic! Talking about exclusivity, there are only 10 (read: ten) of these made worldwide, and we got to appreciate it in its gorgeous entirety. The picture I pulled off the Gucci page shows the right bag — however, the strap on the one that we saw was much longer than the one depited here.

In the South, we’re a little weird about college football. If any of you grew up or went to college south of the Mason-Dixon line, you’re already aware of this phenomenon. Not only do our college teams garner much more ardent support than any of our professional teams, but people devote themselves to their Alma maters with an emotional vigor that is rare to find elsewhere in all of sports. So what’s this got to do with handbags, you say? Well, today is opening day of the 2008 college football season, and although most of the games aren’t until Saturday, a few will be televised tonight and kick off (literally) the happiest 12 weeks of the year for this sports fan. Not only that, but this time of year brings about an odd dressing conundrum for all female football fans that support schools in the South. Because here, you can’t just wear *anything* to a game. We dress up for football like some people dress up for church – and we do it in our team’s colors. Some schools (particularly those where orange figures prominently, bleh) have a harder time of it than others, and I like to think that my school chose wisely. I am an alumni of The University of Georgia, and our colors are red and black. Hermes Bag The pint sized Eva Longoria Parker packs quite a bubbly punch. When I see her, she usually makes me smile. Then again, if I stood next to her I would probably cry. If you have seen pictures of her next to a ‘normal’ sized person, she looks like she comes from a completely different planet. She is tiny tiny, and full of energy, and always smiles. That is the kind of person you love and hate at times (just jealousy). If I would have been asked the perfect Hermes Birkin for Eva Longoria I would have named something bright, fun, and charismatic, in other words, a bag that perfectly fits her personality. LVMH doesn’t just buy up shares of luxury brands for fun, and although owning a chunk of Hermes stock is certainly a strong bet in today’s luxury market, one can’t help but wonder about LVMH’s larger goals. Although the company’s spokespeople claim that LVMH merely has its sights on being a longterm Hermes stockholder, luxury watchers would be advised to take that with a proverbial grain of salt.
